Patients, colleagues, friends and Providence donors gathered recently to honor Albert Starr, M.D., for the 50th anniversary of the first successful artificial heart valve implantation.

Voice of America profiled Dr. Starr for his co-invention of the first successful artificial heart valve and for his work as a military doctor in Korea. The Dr. Starr tribute Facebook page, meanwhile, continues to draw fans.

Providence cardiologist James Beckerman, M.D., appeared on the “Today” show Jan. 10 to talk about how small changes can lead to big weight loss.

W. Kent Williamson, M.D., appeared on KOIN Local 6 to discuss deep vein thrombosis, a condition that for one patient eluded ultrasound detection and nearly cost him his life.
